‘Brewster’s Heraldic Shield’, a collaborative design with heraldic art and research by my father, Derrick Tickle. My dad is the current heraldic artist for the Middle Temple and the House of Lords in London. Our first collaboration earned a Brewster Kaleidoscope Society award in Santa Clara CA in June, 2010.

This kaleidoscope is comprised of two joined sections. The top section is the working kaleidoscope with a precise 2 mirror system. Two lenses offer a wide view option and a concentrated view directly onto the mandala. The mandala is surrounded by images of Sir David Brewster. The cell is liquid filled and includes liquid filled ampules.

The lower section is the base, and houses a kaleidoscopic sculpture, with a spectacular static mandala made from Sir David Brewster’s Coat of Arms, beautifully rendered with additional icons, such as Brewster’s kaleidoscope design at the middle, and his academic pursuits are written in the gold ribbons.

In addition, his choice of three greek words are included in the ribbon. Three perfect spheres ascend the central axis in a Fibonaccian ratio, representing the three Greek words, Kalos, Eidos and Scopeo - beautiful, form, to see.

The base is further embellished with two slumped glass lenses, framing images of Sir David Brewster.
